Bollywood stars are some of the world’s most loved and popular celebrities, with a legion of loyal fans across the Indian subcontinent and beyond. Because of this, it’s no wonder they need a vacation home to escape the crowds and unwinding in peace and privacy. Many of them have multiple beautiful vacation homes across the world. From Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Goa retreat to Sonam Kapoor Ahuja Notting Hill townhouse, step inside these Bollywood stars vacation homes.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ holiday home in Goa
Priyanka Chopra Jonas has beautiful properties across the world, in Mumbai, Los Angeles and New York City, but one of the most discreet and loved in her portfolio is her beach house in Goa. Bought in 2013 for a reported $2.4 million, the beautiful beach house is located near the state’s Baga Beach, and was a childhood dream realised for the Bollywood and Hollywood star. The colonial-style house provided the backdrop for her and her husband Nick Jonas’ 2018 holiday with her cousin Parineeti Chopra, along with many other family escapes to the beautiful beachy Southern Indian state.
Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s bolthole in London
Photographed in Architectural Digest, Sonam Kapoor’s jewel-toned Notting Hill residence is an homage to her native India. The perfect antidote to any homesickness the Bollywood star may have when travelling from Mumbai, the art-filled abode in the leafy London neighbourhood is filled with Indian craftsmanship. Located in a period townhouse, design touches include cane work, wardrobes hand-carved in Mumbai, Gournay’s Early Views of India wallpaper, and a pair of silver elephants passed down from her mother-in-law. The star fell in love with Notting Hill when first dating her now-husband Anand Ahuja, and she spent most of the pandemic in her London home. ‘Suddenly, I was living a very local life with no planes or premieres,’ she told the magazine in 2021. ‘Running in Hyde Park, foraging for olive oils in Portobello market, and bonding with neighbours at this surreal time.’
Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s villa in Dubai
Bollywood icon Aishwarya Rai and her husband Abhishek Bachchan love holidaying and spending extended periods in Dubai, so it’s only right they own a fabulous villa. The couple chose to bed down in a Portuguese-style villa in the emirate’s Sanctuary Falls enclave on the exclusive Jumeirah Golf Estates, backing onto the famous 18-hole golf course and with a manicured lawn and private swimming pool. Jumeirah Golf Estates spans 1,119 acres and offers residents a clubhouse with several great restaurants, tennis courts, a tennis academy, and concierge services – along with a front-row view of the annual golfing tournaments like the DP World Tour.
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh’s weekend escape in Alibaug
Just south of Mumbai, Ailbaug is a coastal town known for its golden beaches, 17th-century Kolaba Fort with carvings of tigers and elephants, lighthouse and Portuguese-built Korlai Fort dating back to 1521. It’s a popular spot for Bollywood celebrities looking to escape the headiness of the cinema capital, and one famous couple that has an escape here are Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The famous pair reportedly have a beautiful five-bedroom vacation home in the Satirje area, a 10-minute drive from Kihim Beach. The home is spread across 2.25 acres with interiors done by celebrated designer Vinita Chaitanya, and was rumoured to cost over US$2.5 million.
Shah Rukh Khan’s lavish villa on Palm Jumeirah
As one of the highest-paid Bollywood actors, it’s no surprise Shah Rukh Khan owns multiple homes worldwide. One of the star’s most impressive is on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah, spread across 14,000 square feet overlooking the Arabian Sea. The villa is reportedly worth US$2.2 million and has six bedrooms, a private pool and a huge garden with beach views and two garages, and interiors were designed by the actor’s wife, Gauri Khan.
… And his beach retreat in Ailbaug
Another lover of Ailbaug, Shah Rukh Khan uses his second home – Jannat – to escape from the bustle of Mumbai. The 20,000 sq m space has its own helipad and swimming pool, plus an all-white living room which has hosted many events and parties with fellow Bollywood celebrities. The second home is a favourite for his daughter Suhana and son Aryan, who can unwind in the ginormous property with friends.
Abhay Deol’s glass home in Goa
Abhay Deol’s search for a vacation home was simple. According to the actor and producer, he took the first plot he saw. While showcasing a homeware collaboration in 2022, the star gave audiences a look into his glass-fronted home, which sits surrounded by thick jungle in the laid-back Indian state of Goa. Speaking of his abode, the actor reveals the brief was to keep the interiors simple – he wanted no windows, just doors that he could open up onto the forest and connect with nature. He also wanted ceilings so high he could barely make them out when looking up -and the result is the ultimate jungle tree house for peaceful escapes from the city.
Rahul Khanna’s home in Alibaug
Another Bollywood star who loves the peace Alibaug brings is Rahul Khanna, whose love for the coastal hamlet began as a teenager with trips to the home of his mother’s friend. The home boasts beautiful Kunal Maniar-designed gardens and a swimming pool, along with a jetty. ‘I love the sense of community and that everyone knows everyone,’ Rahul told Architectural Digest. ‘It’s a much gentler social ecosystem than in Mumbai. People socialise, but it’s low impact. And everything is outdoors, which we don’t have in Mumbai.’
Suniel Shetty’s rustic abode in Khandala
‘I’m obsessed with nature and wood,’ says Suniel Shetty in the same homeware collaboration series on YouTube, entitled ‘Where The Heart Is’. The charming snippet gives a sneak into many Bollywood stars vacation homes and shows Suniel Shetty’s green and nature-inspired abode in Goa. The house is the epitome of rustic charm, with luscious tree-filled grounds, a winding canal, and interiors filled with greenery and natural wood. A retractable roof opens up onto the skies, a wall is covered in fascinating hangings and the star has converted a room into a theatre, showing posters of his movies.
