Greece is one of the most popular escapes from the UAE and GCC, sought-after throughout the year, even out of season, and famed for its idyllic islands, long, stretching summers and cool capital. While popular with travellers, flights from the GCC to Athens – particularly in season – can be costly. So, the good news is Air Arabia has launched cheap flights from Sharjah to Athens.
The budget carrier has announced the new route to the capital of Greece, which will commence on 28 June 2024 with four flights a week – just in time for the summer season. The new flight route will connect the Emirate with the Greek capital, the gateway to the ancient country, its coastline and its hundreds of beautiful islands – which are some of the most popular summer destinations in the world.
The new flight route will open up Greece as a destination for many UAE travellers, who often battle with rising flight prices during the season. One-way fares will be available from AED899, with the route open until October and then re-opening in January. The flight will depart Sharjah at 9am (arriving at 13:05) and depart Athens for Sharjah at 13:55 (arriving at 19:50), with a flight time of around five hours. Both flights will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, with the aircraft being either an Airbus A320 aircraft or 9 Airbus A321 Neo LR.
With Greek summers running longer than ever, stretching from April into October, Air Arabia’s cheap flights from Sharjah will allow travellers to explore not only the islands and capital but Greece itself, but also allow for out-of-season city breaks and other spontaneous adventures. Passengers will also be right on the doorsteps of the fabled Athenian Riviera – a turquoise coastline near the city home to pine forests, charming villages and some of the best luxury resorts in the world (including the iconic Four Seasons Astir Palace and the soon-to-be-opened One&Only Aesthesis.
