It’s been a year since the launch of the Dubai Michelin Guide, recognising the unrelenting hard work, creativity, ingenuity and progression of the city’s culinary and restaurant scene. From honouring and modernising Emirati cuisine to a pool of offerings reflecting Dubai’s diverse ex-pat community, Dubai residents and tourists are delighting in more cuisines than ever before – be it in elegant fine dining restaurants, hotels, or unassuming, un-licensed eateries in the city’s less polished neighbourhoods. Building on the city’s achievements, the Dubai Michelin Guide 2023 has now been announced, and this year, the city also welcomed a brand-new award – Opening of the Year.
‘Almost one year ago, we were all gathered in Dubai Opera to celebrate the very first release of the Dubai selection; making history as the first showcase of the Michelin Guide in a Middle East destination,’ said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides, speaking at the awards ceremony at Atlantis The Royal in Dubai.
‘We started with 69 wonderful restaurants showcasing Dubai at its best. We never had any doubt about the fascinating culinary potential of Dubai, and for this second selection, I can assure you my team of inspectors has been really impressed by the growth and culinary execution of the Dubai dining scene this past year. Travellers consider Dubai a global dining destination, and more and more professionals are attracted to settle here and launch businesses. Dubai is blooming on an international scale, especially with the strength of the culinary industry. The sheer diversity of cuisine is outstanding, and I would like to congratulate all the talented professionals.’
Alongside the world-renowned stars, the newer Michelin Green Star was announced, alongside three special awards recognising individual achievements in the restaurant industry Here are the restaurants that gained, and retained, their Michelin Stars and awards in the Dubai Michelin Guide 2023.
