The place to visit in Dubai for a dose of sleek Scandinavian minimalism and rustic bakes, Bageri Form is an artisan bakery in D3 that offers a heavy dose of hygge on a plate. The interiors will delight acolytes, all stripped back and shades of cream and white, while the cafe itself churns out freshly baked breads and cakes from talented pastry chefs. Located in the shiny new The Park development in JLT, the all-day cafe and coffee shop, deli, grocer, florist and ‘urban garden’ captures the essence of Australia’s laid-back, beachy coffee culture. The design-led dining space is bright and breezy with picture windows, colourful artwork and a soothing colour palette, while outdoor seating overlooks a stretch of parkland with plenty of trees. There’s also a children’s play area to keep the little ones entertained. Back with a shiny new location in Four Seasons Residences, Lana Lusa, from Rikas Group is a stylish neighbourhood cafe bringing classic Portuguese dishes to Dubai. Born in Al Wasl, diners can still soak up the sun on the outdoor terrace flanked with greenery as they tuck into freshly baked pastel de nata and hearty dishes like Tosta Mista or the cooked English breakfast – a generous spread of toasted sourdough, avocado, roasted tomatoes, pan-fried egg, mushroom and crispy veal bacon. This time, overlooking the Dubai Water Canal, instead of the busy Al Wasl Road. As with all Rikas’ venues (La Cantine, Mimi Kakushi, Twiggy by La Cantine, to name a few), there’s a distinct and stylish theme, with countless elements from Portuguese artisans, including colourful ceramic plates and copper fixtures and cork menus from Porto. The restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner with menu highlights including recipes from founder Jessica Viveiro Kassim’s grandmother like Algarve fish stew and plenty of salted cod.

The preened and polished sister to much-loved Casette, Nette is a trendy cafe nestled inside the beautiful grounds of the Matcha Club in Al Quoz. Sitting between yoga studios and padel courts, the serene space is an urban sanctuary with minimalist interiors (white, exposed wood, ) and a lovely outdoor courtyard centred around a large mango tree where yogis in Lululemon converge post-class and families occupy the booths. Food is Japanese inspired and breakfast dishes include a Japanese breakfast skillet with miso dressing, strawberry matcha acai bowl and Japanese avo toast, with a yuzu and roasted sesame twist.

Another fantastic concept by Dubai’s much-loved Eatx group – a failsafe brand for breakfast in Dubai – is Harvest&Co. Aptly ensconced within the leafy confines of Dubai Garden Centre, the bright, breezy and greenery-filled cafe embodies the farm-to-fork philosophy, with the morning’s harvest displayed on an open rustic farm-style kitchen counter and freshly baked bread and coffee from the brand’s own roastery. Focusing on locally sourced, wholesome and sustainable ingredients, the kitchen serves beautifully presented breakfast dishes like smashed avocado on toast, hand-rolled oats and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and lemon oil. Housed in a trendy warehouse-style building in Al Quoz, Tom&Serg is a favourite with the city’s hipster and millennial crowd, with the airy, two-story cafe perennially packed on weekends: and it’s for a reason. The coffee shop and café dolls out the highest quality, freshest, homemade dishes and some of the best coffee around, and the interiors are modern and industrial-chic: soaring ceilings, exposed metal and plenty of greenery and quirky artwork and design. Breakfast dishes include simple toasted sourdough bread with a multitude of toppings like seasonal jam, vegemite and keto cashew and peanut butter, yoghurt and acai bowls, waffles, pancakes, bap buns and classic eggs in all ways, plus some moreish and unique dishes like the Baghdad Scramble (chilli scrambled eggs, chorizo sausage, paratha, hummus and mint yoghurt) and the decadent Aussie Benedict (*with braised beef wagyu). From entrepreneur and former Real Housewives of Dubai star Nina Ali comes riina – a chic all-day restaurant in Dubai’s leafy Tilal Al Ghaf community. The spot sits in the heart of the stylish new Majid Al Futtaim development and is set to become its beating heart for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Diners can enjoy organic design touches like textured walls, natural stone, wood, glass and curves, along with colourful marble and pops of coral and aquamarine, alongside a menu of wholesome Mediterranean-inspired dishes which are additive and preservative-free (the restaurant’s name means ‘purity’.) Breakfast highlights include smoked salmon flatbread with whipped cream cheese, cherry tomatoes, paprika almonds and chilli flakes, while beverages include freshly blended smoothies, fresh juices, health shots, mocktails, teas, and soft drinks. Hidden in the lanes of Alserkal Avenue, Nightjar Coffee is not only home to arguably one of the city’s best brews, but also one of the best breakfast menus. This trendy hipster-like cafe wouldn’t look out of place in cities like London and New York, all dark interiors with neon lights and colourful vinyls adorning the walls, and the breakfast menu is just as quirky and creative. Must-tries include the fluffy ricotta pancake stack, Comte cheese toastie, scrambled eggs on paratha, avo sourdough toast and juicy pulled ox cheek Benedict. Wash it all down with a cup of cold-brew or nitro coffee on tap, ‘freaky geeky’ mocktail or pour over.

Renowned Chef Akmal Anuar opened his stylish smokehouse-style restaurant 11 Woodfire in late 2021, and in its first year of operation secured one Michelin Star and a spot in MENA’s 50 Best Restaurants. While the restaurant is most popular for dinner, thanks to its butter-soft, charred steaks and innovative seafood and vegetable dishes – all cooked over open flames – breakfast is a real treat. Located in a sprawling former residential villa on Jumeirah Beach Road, 11 Woodfire offers both indoor and outdoor setting on its casual terrace and offers moreish dishes like beef cheeks Benedict, served with creamy hollandaise, pickled baby vegetables and perfectly poached eggs, French Toast egg slider and brunch dishes like salted cod and chorizo stew and their signature Wagyu burger with sweet potato fries.

Local brand Mirzam is known for its mouthwatering chocolate creations – decorative selection boxes, truffles, eggs and decadent hot chocolates – but at its store and factory it also served up a mean breakfast. Diners can enjoy breakfast, baked goods and light savoury bites in its industrial chic warehouse in Al Quoz. Coffees are served with a sample of the chocolate of the day and the menu includes creative, delicious dishes like breakfast tajine with Mirzam dukkah and spiced labneh, hot tartine with caramelized onion, wilted spinach, egg and labneh and farmer’s garden toasted muffins – made with a selection of cheeses and veggies. After breakfast, take a wander through the shop or enjoy a chocolate-making workshop.

Part coffee roaster, part sourdough bakery, part remote working haven, part all-day cafe and breakfast spot, The Sum of Us is a stalwart on Dubai’s breakfast scene. From the team behind Tom&Serg and Common Grounds, the similarly bright, industrial-chic and greenery-filled cafe is housed in the Sheraton Grand Sheikh Zayed Road and aims to bring simple, wholesome and flavourful dishes to the city. Everything is made from scratch and baked in-house at the Rise&Dawn bakehouse – the sourdough bread, cakes and pastries – and they source their coffee beans ethically from organic growers and regions around the world, prioritising working with local suppliers. The menu is innovative and satisfying: try the vanilla yoghurt with granola, salted caramel French toast, cheese pancakes, myriad scrambled eggs and international flavours like shakshuka and quesadillas, washed down with smoothies, fresh juices and speciality coffees and hot drinks.

‘A nice happy place’ reads the sign outside Paus, a stylish coffee shop-cum-wellness centre housed in a residential villa on Al Wasl Road. Paus is different to most of Jumeirah’s trendy coffee stops, offering not only great coffee, smoothies, juices, cakes and a delicious all-day breakfast menu, but a series of holistic treatments that focus on healing for the body, mind and soul. Along with dining in the earthy, minimalist space with rattan touches and potted plants or in the greenery and sun-filled front courtyard, guests can head upstairs in the earthy, minimalist villa, guests can opt for treatments like reflexology and reiki or massages and facial ‘maderotherapy’ (a technique to improve lymphatic drainage). Reasonably priced all-day breakfast items include a fluffy truffled egg croissant (AED54), a hearty vegan fry-up (AED65) and Umma’s chai French toast (AED56) – there’s an impressive amount of vegan and gluten-free options.

With outlets across the UAE, Jones The Grocer is a safe bet for a fantastic breakfast in Dubai. The Australian-born chain of cafes-cum-coffee shops-cum-delis (many with a license) are the best spot to get a taste of Syndey’s breakfast culture, from healthy bowls, stacks of pancakes and fluffy scrambled eggs to freshly squeezed juices and perfect flat whites.
