Welcome to the third issue of Near+Far, which was first launched one year ago, and as such, I’m counting this as our birthday issue. In this celebratory theme, this issue is a colourful, joyful and inspirational ode to travel. This issue was designed to bring joy just by looking through its pages and keeping it on your coffee table, even if you have no intention to travel to one of the many places we jet off to.
Travel is simply one of the best and most joyous things in life. Even the most serious people loosen up when travelling – our guards are down and we blend into crowds of people we’ve never met before, and will probably never meet again. Every page and story is packed with colour and fun.

In this issue, we make our usual dive into destinations both near and far. Near, we look at four gorgeous new photography books showing a personality-filled side to the Kingdom, delving into its costumes, modern art scene, beloved camels (yes, the photos are adorable) and even the quirky doors of Diriyah, as there is a whole book dedicated to those.
We also had to share our favourite Dubai dining experience in years, Ofelia at The Arts Club. I’m saying it – this is the most beautiful restaurant in the city and one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Plus, they serve fresh pasta and homemade liqueurs and have a soundtrack of Seventies disco (worth getting a membership for alone…)
On page 14, we look into a new boutique company bringing guests alternative getaways in Egypt’s most unique properties. This includes two stunning riverboats, an art nouveau Red Sea mansion and four Art Deco Cairo apartments, once home to the likes of Omar Sherif and now a revamped tribute to the golden days. We drive around Provence (in the new Ghost Series II) to see where Rolls-Royce owners travel (a billionaire’s boutique villa-meets-art lair to rent this summer).
Last year, I fell in love with Vienna, and 2025 will see the Austrian capital celebrate 200 years of Viennese superstar, Johann Strauss II. I hope I can convey a touch of the magic this city offers: its ballrooms, grandeur, palaces, the waltz. I feel nostalgic and sparkly just thinking of it. There’s so much more to enjoy: book ahead trips, the ultimate Greek islands itinerary with no flights needed, and the company keeping ‘in real life’ shopping trips alive.
Enjoy the issue!
